(Untitled) 'Destabilisation of function and form'

My working practice focusses heavily on the manipulation of material and form, adding to or removing from, in order to disrupt 'normal' balance. The final product is often simple in form, but labourious in production and my intention is to play with human perception. Basic building materials are often employed and minimal form, such as the cube, are used because of their many connotations.

Through manipulation of material and compostition, and using process led and labour inducive techniques, I intend to create an 'intervention' which explores nature versus culture (feminine versus masculine), focussing heavily on function and form. I intend on exploring the function of nature within culture and the inbalances in human perception of this function, with a subtle, perhaps even subliminal, undertone. My material usage will be basic, plaster, wood and nails, and drawing upon minimalist and conceptualist ideas. The form of the cube will be heavily utilised. My intention is to create an intervention in the form of a wall built using two different sizes of plaster cube. A wall is built to either contain something or to keep something out, but, with certain (welcome or unwelcome) force, it can be penetrated. Each cube "brick" shall be cast by hand and drilled individually before the building of the wall begins.
