'Tea' and 'Biscuits'

I'm interested in how we relate to our everyday environment - in exploring the effect it has on us practically, emotionally, intellectually and aesthetically. By transgressing the normal rules for interacting with the stuff of everyday life, the hope is to create a space for an alternative and liberated understanding of our agency within the everyday world. My work aims to perform creative, imaginative and child-like subversive actions, and infinitesimally small acts of "vandalism". It gestures at a refusal to be straight-jacketed by an already-given, prescribed, risk-free environment, and offers an assertion of the individual's freedom over those supposed constraints. It attempts to disturb a "natural" usage of the everyday, enacting a refusal to passively consume the given order of things.

During the residency I will be re-visiting two earlier installation works, 'Biscuits' and 'Tea'. However I do not intend to simply re-make these works using an already pre-existing working process. I will instead aim to, in a sense, work backwards: by taking the final form of the works to be the definitively already given, I will be aiming to make the working process itself a site for investigation. Rather than simply being a facilitation stage between concept and materialisation, I'm interested in allowing the process to take on a freer role. The intention will thus be to critically examine the efficacy of the typical idea-process-form progression.
