A number of fringe events are taking place this year. each are created and supported by different organisations: |

During FRED ’06, the Cumbria Network will be hosting a series of events to stimulate lively debate while creating networking opportunities. ArtTalking is a series of on site Artists led discussions and four Café Evenings held countywide, with film screenings and opportunities for discussion and networking in relaxed, less formal surroundings. All events in this programme are FREE. |

Tuesday 3rd October - 12:00 NoonOnLocation @ MelmerbyAlec Finlay and Kate Gilman Brundrett The Village Bakery Gallery ,Melmerby, Nr Penrith Directions:9 miles East of Penrith on the A686 Alec will discuss his exhibition, ‘Carte Du Jour’, at The Village Bakery Gallery illustrating his response to the Edible Art Commission. Kate will discuss her installation for FRED ’06, ‘Wall’. www.alecfinlay.com Café Nights: Film screening @ No.1515 Victoria Road, Penrith Directions: No. 15 is on the Main Road into Penrith from the South A6/A66 roundabout 3:00 – 5:00p.m. An afternoon screening featuring a short film about Richard Box’s light installation near Shap, with opportunities for networking. |

Thursday 5th OctoberOnLocation @ AmblesideMargaret James Barber Waterhead Pier, Ambleside Directions: Meet at the pier. Off the A591 South of Ambleside 1:00pm Margaret discusses the inspirations and ideas developed for her FRED ‘06 project on the one o’clock ferry. Three differing suitcases containing various smells and contents invoking in the Audience and Artist alike, a sense of nostalgia through our shared sense of memories. www.windermere-lakecruises.co.uk Café Nights: Raining Salmon, Spitting Bones @ The SourceThe Carlisle Hub, 11th Hour Studios and The Crack The Source Café, Atlas Works, Nelson St, Carlisle Directions: The Source is in Denton Holme, South West of Carlisle City Centre and a 15-minute walk from the Train Station 7:00pm Collaborating Artists from the Carlisle Hub, as part of The Cumbria Network’s HUB project, will present ‘Raining Salmon, Spitting Bones’ a five-day performance and installation event in the city centre. 11th Hour Studio talk about Eh!Lo magazine and The Waiting Room exhibition, and The Crack discuss highlights of their cultural magazine in a relaxed atmosphere stimulated by the café’s regular Thursday acoustic session. |

Tuesday 10th OctoberCafé Nights @ The NestJohn Hall, Shaun Blezzard and Anne the Poet The Nest Café, Rawlinson St, Barrow-in-Furness Directions: 2 minutes walk from the Train Station, cross the main road into Rawlinson Street then opposite Hitchen’s 7:00pm John and Sean will discuss their sound piece project undertaken in Village Halls and Anne will discuss her performance days as part of FRED’06. www.shaunblezard.com |

Friday 13th OctoberTitle :OnLocation @ WasdaleSally Barker Wasdale Head Inn, Wasdale Head, near Gosforth Directions: From Gosforth on the A595 and follow signs to Wasdale 1:00pmAn opportunity to discuss with Sally her meat carving of Wasdale, the project she has developed for FRED ’06 there will be an opportunity to view Sally’s work as a bus with an enlarged image of the sculpture on the window will be available to view during this talk. This talk will be followed by a Network walk up a nearby fell, anyone wishing to participate is advised to bring appropriate footwear and clothing. www.wasdale.com Café Nights @ Neo GalleryBryan Eccleshall and Jette Riedlin Neo Gallery and Bookshop, 25-31 Market Place, Cockermouth 7:00pm Alongside his project for FRED ’06 Bryan will discuss his other work and Jette Riedlin will lead discussion on the current exhibition at Neo Gallery, ‘Frameless’ a group exhibition from Danish Artists. Concluding the evening with informal discussion and social networking. |
